About Woodwalton Fen
Woodwalton Fen is close to the village of Ramsey Heights. To access, leave Ugg Mere Court Road and travel down Chapel Road until you reach the end. The Fen is part of the Great Fen Project. It is an excellent location for seeing marsh harriers, as well as a large selection of dragonflies and also the purple emperor butterfly. You may also encounter grass snakes and Chinese water deer. The reserve was initially created by Charles Rothschild who was a keen naturalist, it is now managed by Natural England.
Woodwalton Fen holds multiple high-level national and international conservation designations, including National Nature Reserve (NNR), Ramsar wetland site, Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

On a day when most wildlife seemed to be keeping out of sight, I saw this pair of swans and captured them swimming across the Rothschild Mere.

Woodwalton Fen is an excellent location for seeing dragonflies. This scarce chaser was freshly emerged and posed for several minutes allowing me to get the shot I wanted.
